Kelly Hart

Building with Nature
Kelly Hart has had a lifelong interest in building and has worked in construction professionally, but much of his activity has centered around media. He has worked as a freelance photographer, a film and video producer, and an animator . He has written many articles about sustainable architecture and now manages several popular websites on this topic: www.greenhomebuilding.com, www.dreamgreenhomes.com, www.earthbagbuilding.com, and www.naturalbuildingblog.com.
The use of earthbags for building has been picking up steam since the concept was popularized by Nader Khalili in the mid-nineties. At this point it feels more like an avalanche of interest and building is going on all around the world.
Hart produced a DVD program "A Sampler of Alternative Homes: Approaching Sustainable Architecture," which explores a wide range of building concepts that are earth friendly. Kelly is knowledgeable about both simple design concepts and more complex technological aspects of home building that enhance sustainable living. He has even designed and built a solar-electric car that he drove around his neighborhood. Kelly, and his wife Zana, lived for many years in an earthbag/papercrete dome home that he designed and built in the mountains of Colorado.
